A JCI
Senatorship is the highest honor that a Jaycee can receive in the world. This
recognition is awarded by the Junior Chamber International, only after
recommendation of a local chapter and the approval of both the State Jaycee
President and the US Junior Chamber of Commerce President. Less that one Jaycee
out of one thousand receives this coveted award. This recognition comes as a
result of many years of dedication, commitment and service to the Jaycee
organization.
When a chapter decides to honor one of its chapter members with a Senatorship, a
form is filled out explaining the reason he/she deserves the award. The chapter
President signs the form and forwards the information to the State president
along with two checks; one written to the US Junior Chamber of Commerce for $300
for their processing fee and one for $75.00 payable to the Junior Chamber
International, for processing fees, JCI Senate lapel pin and certificate
(suitable for framing) and a membership gold card bestowing the Senator a
lifetime membership in Junior Chamber International.
An additional check (this is optional) of $40.00 payable to the NE JCI Senate to
be paid for the State dues of one year. Life Time dues for the Nebraska JCI
Senate is $250.00 and can be paid in payments throughout a one year period.
Currently 90% of the NE JCI Senate Membership is Life Members.
Dues into the Nebraska JCI Senate include membership into the US JCI Senate.
The member will receive the "Mentors" magazine that is published quarterly from
the US Senate, and the NE JCI Senate newsletter. The members will also receive a
name badge with Name, Senate #, and the chapter name who gave the Senatorship.
As stated before the payment of the first year's dues to the NE JCI Senate is an
option for the chapter, and the check is sent to the treasurer of the NE JCI
Senate. After the dues have been paid to the NE JCI Senate he/she becomes a
voting member of the organization and may run for office. The main purpose of
the NE JCI Senate is to provide social activities for Senators and to support
the NE Jaycees.
Once the membership application has been signed and sent to the State Office for
the, Presidents signature, the State president forwards the information along
with the two checks to the US Junior Chamber of Commerce. The US Jaycee
president then takes the check that is made to them for processing and looks
over the form. After his/her approval a signature is placed on the form, the
form and the remaining check is then forward to Junior Chamber International for
their approval and signature. After the JCI President signs the form, a letter
of congratulations, lapel pin and certificate is then mailed to the person who
requested the award. In Nebraska the presentation of the Senatorship is usually
give to the member at a Jaycee convention. To obtain a form you can contact the
NE JCI State President.
Nebraska Senators enjoy renewing friendships with each other in the Senate
Hospitality room at the Jaycee Conventions. They also host a golf outing and an
annual football social with the Missouri Senators at the NU/MO game.
The NE JCI Senate is proud sponsors of receptions for the Hall of Fame
recipients, the OYN candidates, the OYF candidates and the First Timers.
The First
Timers Program books and awards are also sponsored by the NE JCI Senate. At
year-end the NE JCI Senate sponsors the Kennedy Family Award.
Many senators work very quietly behind the scenes as mentors to local Jaycees.
Senators feel that it is important to "Return the Favor" to their local and
state Jaycee organization.
Nebraska is part of Region VI. Other states in our region are Missouri, Iowa,
